We are excited to announce that we've partnered with local artist David Benediktson from Coyote Works Ltd. to bring a unique, cultural artistic installation to Greenview during Calgary's Chinook Blast for the 2022 festival. From February 4 - February 27, 2022, Chinook Blast will be heating up our city with a celebration of community, culture, and civic pride. The best of Calgary’s art, music, theatre, sport and recreation will be on display.
Artist David Benediktson has created and fabricated a beautiful installation that pays homage to his Icelandic heritage, a traditional Fiski Rekki (Fish Rack). Many Nordic peoples used this fresh preservation technique to ensure they have food for winter.
The installation is a real-sized artistic interpretation of a fish rack which is used to dry and preserve various types of whitefish for the winter months in Nordic countries. It will be installed in the outside front terrace of Citizen Brewing Co.'s taproom in Greenview, making it accessible for anyone to view.
On Saturday, February 19 at 4:30 pm, we’ll be launching the Fiski Rekki at Citizen Brewing Co. with a delicious fish croquette feature and partnered beer. Artist, David Benediktson will be in attendance for a brief artist talk, and open discussion about the inspiration and process behind the rack.
The launch is family-friendly, and free to attend. Audience participation is encouraged.
